The Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts is a unique and distinguished institution and a cultural asset to the town of Old Lyme and the state of Connecticut. Its uniqueness come from what they do and how they do it: focusing on the fine arts of drawing, painting and sculpting, teaching in traditional methods based on the human figure and nature.

Founded in 1976 by sculptor Elisabeth Gordon Chandler, the College earned its accreditation in 1996 and offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and Post-Baccalaureate and 3-year certificates. Additionally, many student-artists choose BFA-level part-time and continuing studies, and students in grades 7 to 12 study through the Pre-College program. The rigorous curriculum is studio-based for all 4 years and remains small for highly personalized training and mentoring. The studio curriculum is centered around the study of nature and the human figure with particular emphasis on anatomy; the liberal arts curriculum provides a strong academic foundation necessary for advanced critical and creative thought. Together the integrated program is designed to provide a practical foundation on which each student can develop his or her unique intellectual and visual articulation with confidence and integrity. The College's entire studio faculty is made up of professional artists with high levels of achievement and expertise in their chosen fields.
